Wolf Tree (Red Rocks, Vermont)

This tree is at least 250 years old, planted when the land around it was grasslands – so it could grow wide as well as tall. It is a pine tree, and nearing the end of it’s life – which may be 5 years, 10 years, 25 years – who knows? It’s a pine tree, and it has lived a long life already.

It’s beautiful. It’s good to be reminded of beauty sometimes. And that moment of being in the presence of something that is connected to the times when white men were first arriving, and all the changes in the land since then.
